Project Healthy Bones

Improving strength, nutrition and healthy lifestyle choices for successful aging and independent living

What is the Project Healthy Bones?

Project Healthy Bones is a strength exercise and health education program that helps seniors with or at risk of osteoporosis learn the benefits of exercise, nutrition, safety, drug therapy, and lifestyle factors.

The goal of this program is to prevent fractures and falls in elderly residents by performing exercises that improve strength, balance and flexibility.

PHB also provide education on how nutrition, medication, safety and healthy life style can significantly improve the health of bones.

Interfaith Caregivers offers FREE 24-week classes annually at five locations in Hamilton, Lawrenceville, and Trenton, New Jersey. New sessions begin in September, and continue through to March, with on-going maintenance classes provided to graduates through to July.  Classes held at St. Mary’s Cathedral and South Village in Trenton are offered in a bilingual format to accommodate Spanish-speaking participants.

  • Core Session: 24 weeks September -March
  •  Maintenance classes – follow up exercise classes for 24 program graduates  March through to July

Project Healthy Bones is adhering to health and social distancing guidelines and policies set forth by the state and supported by national scientific updates regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.  For everyones safety, we are currently offering virtual classes ONLY for the foreseeable future. Once we are confident it is safe to return to indoor groups without required face masks, we will publicize the new procedures for in-person classes.

Project Healthy Bones classes and services are offered free-of-charge thanks to support from a Socialization and Recreation grant from the Mercer County Office on Aging, a grant from the Office of Faith Based Initiatives – NJ Department of Human Services, the Lawrence Township Community Foundation, as well as other foundation grants and private donations.
