Mary Lou has been volunteering since the 1990’s when the coalition began as a “Faith In Action” program in Trenton. About five years ago she was invited by Jane Latini, a fellow church member at St. Gregory the Great, to help launch Project Healthy Bones.
These days, Mary Lou is helping to build “Home Song”, a music ministry that is an extension of Neighbors Helping Neighbors. Mary Lou, and a growing team of volunteer musicians, are sharing the healing effects of music with homebound care receivers.
Mary Lou also lends her creative touch to decorations for the gift baskets that are distributed to care receivers for Thanksgiving and Christmas. She says that her goal in all these volunteer roles is simply to be “a small light (or voice) offered in love, which brings a smile.”
It’s no wonder that Mary Lou was named as a 2016 Mercer County Women of Achievement, which recognizes those who quietly volunteer their time, energy and resources in an effort to improve the lives of others.
